- Generate personalized study materials and recommendations
- Track your study progress and maintain your streak

- Analyze usage patterns to improve the app experience

Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored securely using industry-standard practices:
- We use Firebase, a Google Cloud Platform service, to store your data securely
- All data is encrypted in transit using TLS/SSL
- Authentication is handled through secure OAuth providers (Google, Apple)
- We implement access controls to protect your information
- Your study documents are stored in your personal account and not shared with other users
- Document embeddings are stored in Neon Database for smart search functionality
Data Retention: We retain your data for as long as you maintain an active account. Study history and statistics are retained to provide streak tracking and progress insights. You can request deletion of your data at any time through the app settings.
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
Firebase (Google): For authentication, database, cloud storage, and analytics
Google Gemini AI: For generating study materials, flashcards, and quiz questions from your documents
Apple StoreKit: For processing in-app purchases and subscriptions
Neon Database: For storing document embeddings to enable smart search features
These services have their own privacy policies, and we encourage you to review them. We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
Analytics: We may collect anonymized usage data to improve app performance and user experience. This data cannot be used to identify you personally.
International Data Transfers
Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence. These countries may have different data protection laws.
When we transfer your data internationally, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place:
- Standard Contractual Clauses approved by relevant authorities
- Data processing agreements with our service providers
- Compliance with applicable data protection frameworks
By using Kognit, you consent to your information being transferred to and processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate.
Children's Privacy
Kognit is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately at privacy@kognit.app.
If we discover that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will promptly delete that information from our servers.
For users between 13 and 18, we recommend parental guidance when using the app and creating study materials.

Erasure: Request deletion of your personal data ("right to be forgotten").

Withdraw Consent: Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent.

Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.
Right to Opt-Out: You have the right to opt-out of the sale of your personal information. Note: We do not sell your personal information.
To submit a request, email privacy@kognit.app with "CCPA Request" in the subject line. We will verify your identity before processing requests.
Data Breach Notification
In the event of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will:
- Notify affected users within 72 hours of becoming aware of the breach
- Provide information about what data was affected
- Describe the measures we are taking to address the breach
- Offer guidance on steps you can take to protect yourself
We maintain security incident response procedures and regularly test our systems to prevent unauthorized access.
